Former first lady Michelle Obama on Monday announced she will "hit the road" in late September as part of a week of action to bolster voter registration ahead of this year's midterm elections.

Obama appeared in a public service announcement for the nonprofit initiative When We All Vote, where she detailed a concentrated effort that will take place from Sept. 22 to 29.

The weeklong effort will coincide with National Voter Registration Day, which is on Sept. 25.

"There's too much at stake to sit on the sidelines," Obama said. "Not just in this election, but in every election."

Obama, who serves as a co-chair of When We All Vote, will spend the week traveling with other members of the organization to encourage voter registration. She did not specify which locations she will visit.

In Monday's video, she urged citizens to host registration events of their own in their communities.

The former first lady framed the campaign as a way to mark the anniversary of the Voting Rights Act.

"Sometimes it's easy to forget all the work it took to get this law passed," Obama said.

"Today we want to honor their legacy and continue their work to ensure that every eligible American casts their vote, work that is far from finished," she added.

Obama first announced the voter registration initiative in a PSA last month. She was joined by a number of celebrities, including Tom Hanks, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Janelle Monae, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, in the first ad to promote the get-out-the-vote push.
