One person has been killed in a fire in the Persey Dlya Detey (Perseus for Children) children’s shopping mall in Moscow, the ambulance service told TASS.
"The victim evacuated from the burning facility has died in the ambulance. Efforts to save him have failed," the source said.
Three firefighters have been injured in the fire, said Ilya Denisov, head of the Main Directorate for Moscow at the Emergencies Ministry. "Three firefighters have been injured," he told reporters.
The blaze that scorched 80 square meters has been extinguished.
About 600 people have been evacuated from the burning Persey Dlya Detey shopping mall and 20 people were rescued by firefighters, the firefighting control point told TASS. "Six hundred people have been evacuated from the facility and 20 people more have been rescued," the source said.
Emergency services received reports about the blaze in the four-storeyed building at 12:32 Moscow time.
The Persey Dlya Detey shopping mall was opened in 2009 near the Semyonovskaya subway station. There are shops with children’s clothes and shoes, baby carriages, child safety seats, kids’ furniture and cribs, infant food, books and toys there. The Afina (Athena) children’s club is located on the upper floor.

The incident in the Russian capital occurs following a deadly blaze in late March that left 64 people dead in the city of Kemerovo, most of them children.
