The Parliamentary Ethics Committee applied the new amendment for the first time and banned the trip to the deputies from the United Arab List by Josef Jabarin and Khanin Zoabi.
The trip was to be financed by the Jewish Voice for Peace organization, which was listed in Israel as a supporting BDS movement, calling for a boycott of Israel. Zoabi intended to go to Ireland, the route of Jabarin is not reported. +
Minister Gilad Erdan spoke with objections about the trips of Arab deputies. He gave the committee a list of 20 organizations supporting the BDS movement. In the cover letter Erdan explained why the "Jewish Voice for Peace" was considered a supporter of the boycott. Among other things, the letter says that a Palestinian terrorist, convicted of the murder of two Israelis in the 1960s, was one of the keynote speakers at the conference of this organization.
Jabarin said he was protesting the decision of the committee and considering the possibility of applying to BAGAC. He intends to file a protest against the committee's personal decision, and against a new amendment to ethical standards that authorized the committee not to authorize travel sponsored by BDS supporters.
