Knesset member Konstantin Razvozov (Yesh Atid) received an official letter from the general director of the Ministry of Education Shmuel Abuava, in which he called the New Year holiday in Hebrew נובי-גוד and stressed that the ministry officially recognizes him.
Abouav also said that he had sent an additional directive to the schools' administrations indicating that they would not allow the pupils to appear in schools on the first of January, and expressed readiness to deal with the arising problems privately.
In some schools, where a significant number of immigrant children are enrolled, this day was decided to be declared a day off.
Konstantin Razvozov, together with the Union of Students of Israel, applied to the Higher Education Council at the Ministry of Education with a request to officially allow students from universities and colleges to skip studies on January 1, and not to take exams for them on that day.
