The cost of living in Israel is one of the highest in the OECD

The 10th channel of Israeli TV reports on the publication of the Taub Report on the socio-economic situation in Israel in 2017.
The report was prepared by Professor Avi Weiss of Bar-Ilan University. Statistics show that the growth in employment and the average real wages in the country led to a significant increase in consumption and a rise in the standard of living. Nevertheless, a significant part of the market is still characterized by low productivity and low salaries. Despite improvements, the cost of living remains one of the highest among OECD countries.
At the cost of consumer goods, Israel is in second place in the world - between Switzerland and the United States.
Israel faces serious demographic challenges that could slow economic growth. Decreasing the proportion of the working-age population, together with the increase in employment among the part of the population whose education and skills do not meet the requirements of the modern market, can lead to a serious crisis in the labor market.
Housing prices are growing faster than rent, which leads to a decrease in the number of homeowners. The reason, among others, is a reduction in the discount rate two years ago and the use of housing as an alternative type of investment.
The report reports an increase in the employment rate among haredi by 9% - up to 73% among women and up to 36% among men. At the same time there is a much higher level of employment among haredi with higher education and among those who live in cities with a mixed population
