The Ministry of Agriculture of Israel is developing a major project in which China leases from Jerusalem more than 1.000.000 dunams of land in the Negev and the Arawa desert for a period of 21 years.
According to the economic publication Globes, within the framework of the policy of global economic expansion proclaimed by communist Beijing, the Chinese intend to grow vegetables and fruits in the Israeli desert to provide billions of people with environmentally friendly food.
China intends to invest several billion dollars in the project, having built two pools in the Negev for desalination and purification of water, which will be used in agriculture.
Some economists have expressed concerns that the transfer of land in long-term lease to China will lead to a reduction in the production of dairy products in Israel itself and a sharp rise in prices in the domestic market.
The project will use the latest Israeli technologies in the field of agriculture.
