The rare natural phenomenon - meteor shower - could be observed between 0.00 and 2.00 at night from 13 to 14 December in the sky over Israel.
Especially good meteor shower was visible in the countryside, away from cities with their lights. The intensity of falling meteors reached 120 per hour, according to the Israeli edition of "Kikar a-shavua."
The source of the meteor shower is the asteroid 3200-Phaethon. It is a small asteroid, whose diameter is about 5 km. Although such dimensions are small in comparison with the largest asteroids of the solar system, among the objects crossing the Earth's orbit, it is one of the largest. Despite the fact that according to orbital parameters Phaethon refers to potentially dangerous astronomical objects, he does not present any danger to the Earth in the next few centuries. 1

The approach of the asteroid to the Earth will continue until the middle of December 2017. At this time, by reducing the distance, its magnitude will increase, reaching a maximum on December 14-15. At the minimum distance, the Earth and Phaethon will converge on the night of 16 to 17 December.
