Memorial plaque in honor of the outstanding Jewish writer and teacher Mendele Mojher-Sforim (Solomon Abramovich) will be installed in Odessa on the facade of the house at 26 Spiridonovskaya Street (Degtyarnaya corner).
The corresponding decree was signed by the mayor.
The first secretary of the embassy of the State of Israel in Ukraine, Boleslav Yatvetsky, asked the permission to install the board. A memorial sign will be produced and installed at the expense of the Israeli Cultural Center in Odessa.
On the board it will be written: "The building of the community Jewish school" Talmud Torah "was located at this place. Its director was the outstanding Jewish writer Mendele Moyher-Sforim (Solomon Abramovich, 1836-1917), who lived in this house from 1892 to 1917".
Mendele Moyer-Sforim is considered the founder of modern secular literature in Yiddish. He also wrote in Hebrew and Russian.
