As Vesty.co.il reports, the smell of autumn in the air, the first rains have already passed, and with them the flowering of autumn flowers began. One of the most beautiful is sternberg (in Hebrew, helminth).
These are large yellow flowers, they grow straight from the ground, without leaves. Their color resembles egg yolk, from which the Hebrew name ("Helmonite" means "yolk").
Sternberg is an onion plant. It is a geophyte, that is, an underground plant that tolerates an unfavorable period in the soil. It is believed that Sternberg is a relic of ancient times, when the climate in Israel was cooler and rainy than it is today.
This plant blooms from October to December. You can see it on Hermon, the Golan, the Upper and Lower Galilee, Gilboa, the Judean Mountains, the Judean Desert and the Negev.
On favorable days, "Helmonia" cover the earth in the reserves of Israel with a solid yellow carpet. You can take pictures of these flowers and yourself against their background. But you can not tear it up. Sternberg are protected by law. The inspector of the Office of Parks and Reserves, who saw a tourist with a bouquet of yellow flowers in his hands, can fine the offender.
Large yellow flowers appear on the surface of the earth during the first rains, flowers open in the morning and close in the evening. They are considered one of the largest flowers in Israel.
