Azariah asked the head of the General Staff of the IDF to mitigate the punishment

Today, Elia Azaria addressed the head of the IDF's General Staff, Lieutenant-General Gadi Ayzenkot, with a request for a reduction in the punishment.
As the radio station "Kan Bet" reported with reference to the proxies of Azaria, he decided not to appeal to BAGAC. This decision was made after lengthy discussions with family members.
Elior Azaria, who was sentenced to one and a half years in prison for manslaughter of a terrorist in Hebron, should begin serving his sentence on August 9.
Earlier, the head of the IDF's General Staff promised that if the convict filed a request for mitigation of the punishment, she would be considered seriously.
"The petition will be considered taking into account all aspects relating to the case, and based on my fidelity solely to the values of the IDF and the soldiers of the army," said Eisenkot.
On July 30, the Court of Appeal in "Cyrie" left unchanged the verdict and verdict in the case of Elior Azaria. The decision was made by the majority of three judges - two others demanded to tighten the punishment.
Head of the Court of Appeal, Major-General Doron Faile, dismissed all the arguments of the defense. The court ruled that precedents that did not involve investigations are irrelevant in this case.
Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman had earlier called upon the family of Elior Azaria to not file a new appeal against the court's decision, but to appeal to the Chief of the General Staff Gadi Aizenkot with a request for amnesty. Nevertheless, the lawyer who represented Azariah, said in court that he intends to appeal to the Supreme Court.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that he did not change his mind that Elia Azaria should be amnestied. He promised to pass his recommendations to the relevant structures when the issue comes to practical discussion.
