Ministers decided to remove metal detectors from the Temple Mount

The Cabinet of Ministers for Politics and Security ordered the removal of metal detectors from the entrances to the Temple Mount complex.

Instead of metal detectors, the ministers ordered the installation in the Old City of a new "smart" security system, including advanced cameras and other technological tools. 100 million shekels have been allocated for this purpose. New cameras are designed to recognize faces, as well as weapons hidden under clothing.

Until the system is put into operation, reinforced police and border patrols will ensure order in the Old City.

All Israeli media claim that the decision was part of the deal with Jordan, which agreed not to obstruct the departure of Israeli diplomats from Amman, including a security guard who was attacked and shot by the Arab attacking him. In the same incident, another person was killed.

The office of the Prime Minister denies that the departure of diplomats is connected with the dismantling of metal detectors.

Metal detectors were installed on the Temple Mount after the terrorist attack on July 14, when two policemen were killed. Security forces in response destroyed three terrorists who tried to hide in the Al-Aqsa complex.

The Arabs staged a demonstration near the Lion's Gate, learning about the decision to remove metal detectors. During the riots, one demonstrator was injured.
