During the visit to Tel Aviv, the Russian Defense Minister, Army General Sergei Shoigu held talks with the head of the Israeli Defense Ministry, Avigdor Lieberman, and in particular stated that "Russia and Israel are connected by a common history."

"I would like to discuss separately everything connected with Syria. The operation there goes to completion. There are several points that require discussion and an urgent decision, "the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry quotes Sergei Shoigu as saying.

"Apart from the issues of our military and military-technical cooperation, of course, the main and the most important is the issue related to the fight against terrorism and the situation in the region," the head of the Russian military department emphasized and continued:

"In conditions of increasing terrorist activity in the world, the international community needs to be united in the fight against this evil," Sergei Shoigu said.

Shoigu expressed confidence that the talks "will help to better understand each other and will contribute to the strengthening of friendly relations between the armed forces of Russia and Israel."

In his turn, Avigdor Lieberman stressed that the Israeli side values relations with Russia "for sincerity, frank dialogue".

Speaking in Russian, Lieberman noted that in Israel they remember "the history of their people and the history of the Soviet people, when the ancestors of present generations" fought shoulder to shoulder in the ranks of the Red Army. "

"For us, the lessons of World War II are very, very important. We appreciate your attitude to the memory of all those who fought and those who died during the Second World War, "said Avigdor Lieberman.

As noted in another communication on this topic, during the visit the meeting of the head of the Russian military department with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is planned.
